Former senior executive at Circle, Square and Visa brings extensive payment and digital currency experience
SAN FRANCISCO, California, February 6, 2019 — Celo, an open platform with a focus on technology and products to increase financial inclusion worldwide, today announced Chuck Kimble has joined the company as head of strategic partnerships. Kimble will contribute to and lead Celo’s development strategy as it builds, creates and fosters an open ecosystem to bring better financial products to emerging markets and under-served populations around the world.
“Chuck brings a ton of business development and digital payments experience to Celo and he’ll play an instrumental role in encouraging the development and scaling of products globally,” said Celo founder Rene Reinsberg. “Chuck is highly respected in the financial tech industry and he understands how digital payment services can help people and families with no access to financial services. We’re excited to have Chuck join the team and help build and grow Celo’s open ecosystem.”
“I’ve spent the vast majority of my career advancing digital payments and I see tremendous opportunity for Celo to improve the livelihood of billions of people around the world who today are involuntarily detached from the global financial system,” said Kimble. “Celo’s initial projects have demonstrated the value of its open platform and I’m looking forward to furthering awareness and adoption. Celo has built an incredibly strong team and it’s an honor to join them on this mission.”
Prior to joining Celo, Kimble served as head of partnerships at Circle where he led business development efforts for the company’s stable coin. In less than four months USDC became the second most popular stablecoin globally. Kimble’s payments industry expertise includes senior roles at Square, where he was the head of strategic partnerships, responsible for network and financial industry partnerships, and Visa, where he held a number of senior business development and sales executive roles. Kimble also served as executive vice president of partnerships at Dashlane.
Celo’s mission is to build a monetary system that creates the conditions for prosperity for all. Celo is an open platform using blockchain technology to connect people globally and bring financial stability to those who need it most. The first application launching on the Celo platform is a social payments and money transfer app that enables fast, secure and stable digital payments to any mobile number at a fraction of today’s cost.
