While the Future is Uncertain, Two Events Are Certain
Death and Judgment.
Warren Buffett once told Bill Gates, “I can buy anything I want, basically, but I can’t buy time.”
Solomon discusses the wisdom in preparing ourselves financially and economically for the future — despite not knowing what will happen tomorrow (Ecclesiastes 11:1–6).
We all understand there is wisdom in preparing our finances for the future (special thanks to Greg Howell for helping my family in that department)
As we are all nodding our heads in agreement with the wisdom in preparing for the future, Solomon then turns our attention to the only two events in the future that are certain — our death and judgment (Ecclesiastes 11:7–12:8).
Solomon has already produced our agreement to the wisdom in preparing for what lies ahead. How shortsighted and foolish of us would it be to be unprepared for the two events in our future that are certain?
Will we prepare for things that are uncertain, and yet fail to prepare for things that are certain?
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil” (Ecclesiastes 12:13–14).
