We’re less than a week away from the 2018 midterm elections and, to hear most people tell it, the stakes have never been higher. To mark the occasion, we’re once again partnering with NJ Spotlight to help populate a live election map as the results come in on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

We need your help to watch and enter the results starting at around 7:45 p.m. We’ll be entering the numbers as they come in to help populate the map, which will be embedded on news sites across the state. Additionally, we’ll be asking local journalists to go on air with Montclair State University students from WMSC 90.3 FM and The Montclarion to discuss results as part of a live two-hour broadcast in partnership with TV34 Montclair.

And the best part is that we’ll be paying our volunteers in pizza!

This election night open newsroom is a great opportunity for:

  • Local and hyperlocal publishers
  • Students and faculty
  • Freelancers and bloggers
  • Any journalist or news junkie without a newsroom

In previous years, we were awarded an Excellence in Journalism Award in the category of Online Deadline Reporting from the Society of Professional Journalists for our efforts. This year, we have the entire Montclair State University journalism and media apparatus at our disposal again, including the shiny new equipment in our state-of-the-art School of Communication and Media Building.

All Montclair State campus media organizations will also be participating in this massive collaborative event: Wired Jersey, MSU Broadcast and Media Operations, The Montclarion, and WMSC will be running a two-hour simulcast, complete with a Facebook Live stream. Attendees will have the opportunity to go on air and on camera to discuss their own reporting efforts in their respective communities, as well as any other projects and events related to the election.

Don’t miss this awesome opportunity (to eat free pizza)!

Anyone can drop by, but we do need some committed folks who promise to stay until all the votes are counted.

If you’re one of those dedicated news nerds, click the button below or send an email to Joe Amditis at amditisj@montclair.edu and let us know if you can make it! We’ll send you parking and other information once you sign up.
