Selecting the location for the 2022 Collaborative Journalism Summit wasn’t difficult: Chicago had always been top of mind.

Why? There is so much happening when it comes to collaborative journalism in the Midwest, most of it centered in the Windy City.

You’ve got City Bureau, the country’s #1 example of community-centered and community-powered collaborative journalism. There’s also Solving for Chicago, a collaborative of 20 print, digital and broadcast newsrooms that are supported by the Local Media Association and Solutions Journalism Network. The Chicago Independent Media Alliance has set the standard for collaborative fundraising. And the Institute for Nonprofit News has run several collaborations that involved Chicago newsrooms.

And that’s why I’m thrilled today to be able to confirm that the Center for Cooperative Media at Montclair State University will host the seventh annual Collaborative Journalism Summit May 19–20 in partnership with the Department of Communication in the School of Media Arts at Columbia College Chicago!

We’ve got A LOT of details and logistics to work out, since this will be our first foray back into in-person events. But one thing I want to make clear: The 2022 Summit will include virtual and in-person components. It will be a hybrid event to reduce barriers to access for people around the world who want to participate but are unable to travel. And, we hope to provide the best environment for in-person connection as we can.

Here’s what’s next: We will open registration via Eventbrite once we have some additional logistics worked out, but in the meantime you can click here to add the conference dates to your calendar: May 19 and May 20.

If you’re interested in presenting at the 2022 Collaborative Journalism Summit, make a pitch here!

And last but CERTAINLY not least, we are fundraising now to support the costs of the Summit. If you’re interested, please click here to see our packages.
