A rainy day tale

My mother tears an old sari to wipe my school books, and my drunken father lies on the floor, oblivious to the leaking roof. Seeing the fresh bruises on her cheeks, I wonder what drenched my books — the raindrops or her tears.

Making her smile becomes my life’s goal.

Prompt: To write a Pentina using both meanings of a homograph.

The homograph used is tear — to rip/a drop of water from the eye.
