Exotic Pets

The larger the animal the greater the trouble

Not again. Never again. “Enough!”

Miranda Sharpe glared at the animal tethered to the kitchen table and shook her finger at her two boys — Nick and Nathan. “No more live crickets for geckos and baby mice for snakes. No exotic pets!”

“But Mom — you said…”

“A cat. I said you could have a cat. That’s not a cat.” She pointed at the offending animal. A stray sock dangled from the creature’s mouth. “That’s a goat.”

The boys exchanged a look. “That’s not the pet.”

“What?”

“That’s the pet’s dinner.”

An angry growl rattled the screen door. Their cat was hungry.
