“Toll is fifty cents,” the driver implored. “We just need a nickle!”
I and two friends frantically searched every crevice of the cramped ’85 Datsun. Cars honked, insults flew, but what could we do? Our car was blocked by an Illinois I-94 tollgate, and we were out of change.
This really happened. As unemployed college students we couldn’t come up with five cents until a fellow driver took pity on us. Thanks to J.A. Taylor for the Centina Pentina prompt Spare Change.
