Weeping, like she’d never known. Like her soul had broken and had been made of water that burst through the dam of her eyes. She never thought it would stop.

She felt a hand on her back, ever so gentle, and the warm voice from her stepmother saying:

“Trust the tears will stop. But now you need the tears. You need them to let the pain breathe like leeches filter bad blood. This tells you you are made of more than blood and bone. When the pain has poured out, then it will stop. But for now, trust the tears.”

Based on the challenge that has three musts: 1) Write a story about trust, 2) using the word, “trust,” 3) with a picture from the Birmingham Museums Trust.
