There’s plenty of ugliness in the world, but most of it resides within invisible ideals which play out through ugly actions (jealousy, hate, bullying, discrimination, oppression, abuse, etc.). But the world is also full of beauty. There’s love, affection, humility, service, and kindness. Here’s the technical definition of beauty:

Beautiful

[ byoo-tuh-fuhl ]: Possessing qualities that give great pleasure or satisfaction to see, hear, think about, etc.; delighting the senses or mind.

But may I remind you not all which is beautiful is good or kind. Consider the way a hawk falls from an azure sky on an unsuspecting prey, or the burnt-auburn hue of a dry autumn leaf as it clings for last life. Beautiful can be the practiced grace with which a servant bows before a tyrant king, or the gleam of a virgin blade hungry for first blood. Beautiful can be full lips parting over a deceitful smile or the subtle curve of your wayward wife’s sun-kissed shoulder. This way of seeing beauty reaffirms the old adage: beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Your Centina prompt this week is to center your story around a thing of beauty. Find something captivating and write a story to make us feel how compelling…
