Write a 100-word story about a remote control

Once upon a time, people had to walk over to their televisions, air conditioners, lights, and other appliances to turn them on and off. Shocking, isn’t it?

Here’s a bit of remote control trivia for you: Early television remotes used audible sounds to control the television. Different pings commanded the TV to perform different functions, such as turning on and off, changing the channels (all four of them), and changing the volume. Telephone ringers produced sounds that were close enough to the remote control’s pings that a ringing phone would often change the channel.

We’re looking for stories about physical remote controls (as opposed to using Alexa or Google Home to control devices.)

What can a remote control do? It’s your story, so a remote can do anything you want. Dazzle us with your 100-word story.
