What’s Your Name Today?

He called her Mona, but that wasn’t her name

Out of the blue, I started to call my wife of thirty years Mona, and then she started to call me Cary, after which I pretended she was an international spy, and she spoke of me as an astronaut, which is what saved our marriage.

I enjoy writing one-sentence stories. They’re challenging puzzles: Can you capture entire lives between the first sentence and period?
