Stanislaus County Police Target African American Citizens.

DrugPolicy.org released an eye opening and shocking (not so shocking for some) report on the targeting of blacks for marijuana by California police. The entire report can be read here. We will focus on Stanislaus County.

Starting off the report looks at the overall issue.

In every one of the 25 largest counties in California, blacks are arrested for marijuana possession at higher rates than whites, typically at double, triple or even quadruple the rate of whites.

Some would argue, “Well, if the use more drugs they will get more attention.” This is quickly disspelled.

U.S. government studies consistently find that young blacks use marijuana at lower rates than young whites.

First off, how much of the population of Stanislaus County is black?

3.2%

So how many are arrested?

So, as this graph show, blacks are arrested at a much higher rate.

But how much higher than white citizens?

225%

225%, damn. That is insanity. They use less but face much higher pressure and focus from police. How can one argue that Ferguson is a problem over there. It is not. It is here in the valley. With a motto of, “Striving to be the best,” we ask, at what?
