We hosted our first ever developer learning weekend at our very HQ! The aim of the weekend was to equip developers with the skills to deploy and monetise a decentralised app (DApp) using the open source tools on our CENNZnet platform.

The programme was designed to support developers from ideation to execution and included workshops on:

  • Intro to blockchain and blockchain use-cases
  • Intro to Centrality core services and tools
  • How to run a node and stake tokens
  • How to deploy a smart contract
  • Market validation of your idea for a DApp
Bette Chen taking CENNZed participants through our core services, tools and developer portal.

On hand were senior software designers and project managers from Centrality and Plug to support participants on their DApp. We saw some great effort on the day and it was only fair to reward some stand-out participants. We had four categories including:

  • The award for finding bugs went to Ben from Ahau
  • The award for grit went to ‘ConCennzus’ team that was building an identity project
  • The award for organisation skills went to Rachel Hunter who had never developed on Rust before, but had created the most impressive outline of her challenge and proposition for a Kickstarter-like platform
  • The award for most creative use of Centrality’s protocols went to Charles Salmon who was developing a solution to track the lifecycle of soft plastics — he even managed to get a smart contract running!

The ‘ConCennzus’ team was the lucky recipient of 10 hours of one-on-one time with a Centrality developer mentor of their choice. All the other winners receive CENNZ tokens from an allocation worth NZ$2000. Congratulations to all the winners!

Jordan Beauchamp demonstrates how to deploy a smart contract using our Spin2Win tutorial.

Thank you everyone who came along and took part, Centrality team has got a lot of feedback on our developer portal and documentation thanks to you and we’ve got a chance to fine tune a few things before our launch.

CENNZ-ed teams giving it 110%.

Coming into Habanero stage of our roadmap, it’s vital to get more feedback to keep optimising CENNZnet, so we’re looking forward to hosting more Developer Learning Weekends! Stay tuned for updates on the upcoming events.
