Centrality has been around the world and back this month!

A key highlight for us was Singapore Fintech Festival, the biggest of its kind in the world. It was great to connect with the fintech community from all around the globe, especially in Asia-Pacific — Centrality’s biggest market. The lines between the fintech and blockchain industries are beginning to blur and there’s lots of opportunities and synergies that lie ahead. Beyond the festival, I was lucky enough to be invited to a business breakfast with the Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern alongside key players of the Singaporean and New Zealand business communities.

After Singapore I was off to TechFest, an annual gathering for startups in Vietnam. An emerging market for startups, developers and blockchain innovation, the country is hungry to stay ahead of the innovation curve. I was invited to speak on how blockchain will impact the digital economy in the future and then to join a panel discussion to touch on opportunities in blockchain, fintech and policy.

Meanwhile, GM Enterprise Solutions Sam Zou took a team over to AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas. Cloud will be big for blockchain and our guys got a lot out of the trip, including placing second for a challenge around security and compliance in AWS.

You might have noticed from our social media channels that we have a new look! Centrality has a mission and an edge which is different to most companies and we wanted to re-enforce this in the way we communicate our brand. With all the advances we’ve made over the past two and a half years, it was important to update our story to show how the nearly 40 ventures we are involved with fit together. We launched our new website with the new look and lots more info which you can find here.

SingleSource

As their Main Token Sale progressed, SingleSource announced new significant milestones: their partnership with Delta Insurance to reinforce cyber security and its accreditation by Australian Government as a Gateway Service Provider for Document Verification Service, enabling 30 million people on both sides of the Tasman to have their identities verified by SingleSource’s secure blockchain technology.

At Singapore’s FinTech Festival SingleSource showcased how businesses can deliver frictionless customer onboarding experiences and prevent fraud, using their digital identity and KYC/AML solutions. CEO Kelvin was invited to demonstrate SingleSource’s automated onboarding workflow on the Blockchain open stage and also met with government officials and the Prime Minister.

Sylo

All teams at Sylo are going full steam ahead. On one side of things, the production team has been putting in the hours to get a robust, innovative dApp into user’s hands as soon as possible. On the other, Sylo has been busy on a global event tour, including London and Seoul, to educate the next wave of users about the benefits of decentralised, blockchain technologies.

Iomob

iomob won the very competitive Ford City of Tomorrow Challenge™ out of 129 original applicants and 13 shortlisted projects and will get a chance to implement a pilot of our open urban mobility solution in the city of Pittsburgh in the coming months. iomob is in conversations with a further ten cities globally that are interested in implementing the platform. The Pittsburgh pilot, which will last about six months, will test the platform on a group of designated early adopters, before becoming available for public download. The win follows a highly successful tech preview of the iomob platform at the LongHash Blockchain Open Day as part BlockShow Asia on Dec 1.

Neighborhood

The team has built user journeys for claiming your property, digitally, and integrated this into the end-to-end e-conveyancing user flow. The claim process is a key feature that validates property ownership for a natural person against the LINZ ownership data and also Company Ownership against the Companies Register.

Neighborhood has been engaging with the conveyancing value chain and Real Estate Industry bodies, including REINZ, ADLS. It has kicked off Industry Working Forums with banking and conveyancing law partners to initiate discussions on issues that could be solved with Neighborhood’s solution. The first industry-wide forum for all real estate players is slated to launch very soon.

Centrality Accelerator powered by Lightning Lab

Boot Camp for the accelerator programme was a huge success and a great way for the 7 participating teams to get to know each other. Lightning Lab had an opportunity to take the teams through the process of developing a lean startup, culminating at the end of the week with teams pitching a hypothetical — but in no way less disruptive — solution. Centrality Chairman Roger Smith and I came along to Mentor Evening to shed light on the company’s early day and also reflect on how far we’ve come since then. The programme is now heading towards the halfway mark and will pick up speed after the Christmas break.
