Looking for a team

Almost every day I come across texts here and there such as “Secrets of a great leader” or “Differences between the leader and the boss”, I confess that I am tired.

With that opening sentence you may have the false impression that I am a negative, I am not. But I want to draw attention to this issue. Instead of selling my qualities, I share with you my faults rather than rehearsing a perfection that does not exist.

Our mission already seems difficult enough: to conquer markets, to satisfy customers and to set up motivated teams. At the end of the story, the most difficult thing is not to be a leader, but to join teams that share the same vision, at all levels of the corporation.

As a leader I try to make clear what our organization needs and expects from our areas, but I am not perfect. I never told anyone to do anything, I always tried to show how important that was. I never gave blind tasks, I always presented the global context.

I love innovation, I want change every day, but I’m not a genius. I like to listen to people’s opinions, I agree to change my opinion with better ideas, always, but I do not like lero-lero.

I support my team in everything, I help in what I can, I get involved trying not to invade spaces, but I do not think it’s fair that I do the work of others who are there to make their deliveries, to “make it happen.”

I do not get tired, I love what I do and I love working with people. The market, however, asks us more and more. Teamwork sometimes is to do something alone without disturbing the other that depends on your delivery on time.

By looking at the leader, people expect him to be able to inspire, and know everything. Yes, I can divide my inspiration and point our horizon, but I do not dominate all fields of finance, HR, technology and marketing. But I know how these things affect our goals.

And what does the leader expect? No one ever asked!

I hope in my team people that also inspire me, that also motivate me and that I can admire. People who teach me what I do not know, and who point me objectively where I am wrong.

People who view work as a daily challenge that needs to be tackled every day, so that we can look back and smile at our achievements. Bring new ideas and fight for them, not because they are them, but because they are good and they give up promptly if another idea better comes up.

I look for people who want to contribute to building a vision, a challenge, not to share executions or problems.

Companies are not perfect, leaders are not perfect. What is perfect is dreams and vision. If we do not have either, we better go home.
