In the Beginning

During the formation of the earth and heavens, divine beings came and went in a constant wave of power spreading throughout the cosmos. Occasionally fragments of that divine power would stay after the beings would travel beyond the limits of time, and it was from these fragments that the gods and monsters coalesced into existence.

The most powerful of these gods was Orbius, and Chief among the Monsters was Valknyr. A war between these two powers went on for eons, but as the battle waged in the heavens, life on earth grew and spread throughout.

Life on Earth

From the life giving earth sprang humans, who would cultivate the land and grow with the fruits of their labors. Humans were seen as a neutral party in the war between the Gods and the Monsters, and both sides used humans to their own ends when they could.

Orbius, seeing that there would be no end to the battle as it stood, decided to use the humans in a more powerful move against the monsters, by gifting immensely powerful weapons to those human heroes who had proven themselves to be the pinnacle of human spirit.

With these weapons the heroes were able to destroy the monsters on behalf of the gods, and went on to build the mighty empire of Laconia, where peace ruled the day and those who had been affected by the war from the heavens could finally know peace.

After the War

The peace did not last long, as once the threat was over, the gods demanded that Orbius take back these powerful artifacts from the humans, lest the humans grow too powerful to control. Orbius had grown fond of the humans though, and felt that allowing those worthy to keep these legendary items would be better for all.

Many of the other gods were shocked at Orbius’s decision, but none had the power to force his hand. In an attempt to level the playing field, many demigods created other powerful artifacts for their followers to use. Though powerful beyond anything human metalworkers could create, they were still no match for the wielders of those first legendary armaments, who became mighty generals and rulers of Laconia.

As time went on and the original purpose of these items were forgotten, those wielding the items began to be seen as gods themselves by those they held rule over, which angered the gods greatly. In response to this, many of the lesser gods decided the city needed to be reminded of their power, and so decided to send personal champions of their own to wrest these powerful items away from the mortals.

The War of the Heavens

The ensuing fight caused countless lives to be lost on both sides, and by the time the fighting was over, almost all of the the weapons created for the original battle had been lost, and many of the gods had also lost considerable power by losing their empowered champions sent to earth. This left the Laconians open to an as of yet unseen threat from the East…

The Laconians Enslavement

The Spartans had been watching the battle from afar in the hopes of using the power struggle to acquire these weapons of legend. Once word spread that the peaceful kingdom had lost favor with the gods and their benevolent leadership had been violently removed, the Spartan leadership used the opportunity to swiftly move in and capture the citizens of the peaceful nation and force them into a life of slavery.

The people of Laconia desperately prayed for help from the gods, but with their power reduced they could provide no help against this threat.

Spartan Management

Life as a Spartan slave was filled with daily beatings and the threat of death from any spartan citizen for any reason. Multiple generations of Laconians grew old and died in this new form of living, until all thought of past glories had long been removed from the slaves collective memory.

Occasionally tales would be heard of a legendary weapon being unearthed and used in tremendous battles, but the stories always ended with the wielder being deemed unworthy and the weapon being lost to time once again. Mentioning Laconia would result in a gruesome death, and so all history and story from those times faded away as well.

Breaking the Chains

Many Generations have passed, and recently tales among the gods have begun to spread of a new monstrous horror threatening to rise up once again. In desperation the gods have asked Orbius for a way to fight back against this threat, and he has spread the seed of insight among the descendants of those original great heroes who paved the way for Laconian greatness.

Those who toil under the heavy handed slave masters of the Spartan elite have begun to have visions of past conquests and feelings of wanderlust that they are unable to shake. These brave slaves have begun to break their chains in an effort to rouse their fellow Laconians to action for the upcoming battle between Gods and man. Whether it will be enough to stop this new threat only time will tell.
