We are very happy to share with our community that our team, Chainode Tech, joined The Graph since the Phase 0 of Mission Control, an incentivized Testnet Network where Indexers can operate nodes, complete various missions and contribute to building and improving The Graph Network ahead of the Mainnet launch.

As a Validator that already joined various highly performant blockchain projects since Testnet phases, like Solana, KAVA, Harmony Protocol or ICON Network, we were really impressed and pleased to see such a high interest for The Graph from the Validators community. No less than 500 Indexers registered for the Testnet, with more than 200 nodes being deployed already in Phase 0. For this, we would like to congratulate the team as well as our fellow Indexers.

What is The Graph?

If you would ask our team, the answer would be that The Graph is a truly revolutionary and one of the most exciting projects developing in 2020. If we were to take a deeper look on the reasoning behind this statement, The Graph enables indexing and querying data stored on blockchains in an efficient and decentralized way by using GraphQL as query language for open APIs. This will facilitate internet applications to be entirely powered by a public infrastructure. For more in-depth information about The Graph, please read this introductory article.

Why is a project like The Graph important in the blockchain space?

Usually developers working on DApps have to write custom code and use proprietary indexing servers in order to serve applications in a truly efficient way. This means that no standards are being used while doing this and that additional development and integration efforts are required. Therefore, until now, it was not really possible to verify that the indexing is correct or have multiple players to use for comparison.

Through its architecture and mission, The Graph takes things on another level when it comes to empowering true decentralization. Unlike the traditional centralized way, all data is stored and processed on an open network with verifiable integrity, making data querying fast, reliable and secure. By using The Graph, digital applications can enjoy both performance and decentralization at the same time, and do not have to compromise on choosing only one of these characteristics.

The Graph journey for Chainode Tech

What most attracted us about The Graph was the fact that the project not only tackled a critical area in the further development of blockchain technology and the Web 3.0, but they did this by having „decentralization“ at the core of their work. As this was fully aligned with our mission at Chainode Tech, to power and contribute to the development of such initiatives, we decided to start our journey as a Graph Indexer.

We joined The Graph Network in mid July 2020 and started with deploying a Graph Node as well as a few subgraphs to the node as part of the Mission Control Phase 0. The goal of the Testnet is to help validate economic design, test security, network capacity and indexer performance in the protocol.

Also as part of Phase 0, we had to find a scalable solution for having an Ethereum archive node, which allows the fast access to all the transaction records that have ever happened on the Ethereum Network. The difference between an Ethereum archive node and full node is that the Ethereum archive node, besides storing the transaction history, enables the access to some additional data related to Ethereum’s state to query information more efficiently. An Ethereum archive node can be used for example to check the state of an Ethereum account at any given block height. Such queries might be necessary in case of some subgraphs but these represent rather isolated than general use cases.

After the successful completion of Phase 0, we were selected among the over 200 Indexers that went forward to the next stage, Phase 1, focused on testing staking, basic actions and customization. As part of this stage, we added an Indexer Agent and Indexer Service to the Graph Node setup and we also indexed several subgraphs. 170 Indexers have submitted their endpoints for their Indexer Agent and Service of Mission 1, including Chainode Tech, and the Phase 1 of the Testnet is currently heading towards its Second Mission, tackling Basic Protocol Actions.

Chainode Tech is looking forward to the successful completion of Phase 1 and we are excited to join the next Phases of the Mission Control Testnet. Our intention is to support The Graph as an Indexer by being an active part of the transition from Testnet to Mainnet and continue with our long-term focused support after the Mainnet launches.

About Chainode Tech

Founded in early 2019, Chainode Tech is a young, extremely motivated and experienced team based in Zug, Switzerland, that is focused on providing staking and validator services on cutting edge Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) protocols. Driven by the motivation of bringing decentralization in the real world and with the experience of getting to know the blockchain space since 2014, the team decided that it was time to get actively involved in the space as Chainode Tech and to vote with their knowledge and services projects that they believe in and see as technically pertinent of growing the decentralized space.

In addition to The Graph, Chainode Tech is active also on multiple other Testnet and Mainnet networks, such as Solana, Harmony Protocol, Band Protocol, ICON Network, KAVA or CertiK.
