At Chainode Tech, our involvement in the Staking and Validating sector dates back to 2019, with some of our team members engaging in the decentralized ecosystem as early as 2014. Our interest in the Proof of Stake ecosystem stems from its capacity to engage the community and end-users in network operations, not only as potential Validators but also as stakeholders empowered by their token holdings. This approach is a significant shift from traditional finance, offering a renewed opportunity to end-users to contribute to the development of an improved financial system.

The fun part for us, as a tech-savvy team focused on Web3 infrastructure, lies in observing emerging networks as they adopt unique solutions to the key challenges of blockchain technology: decentralization, scalability, and security. We thrive on actively testing and contributing to the enhancement of their infrastructure’s performance, reliability, and availability. And the Sui blockchain made no exception.

Chainode Tech: A Validator’s Perspective on the Sui Blockchain

Our team embarked on the Sui ecosystem journey as a Validator right from the early Testnet stages. Drawing from our extensive experience as a Validator and infrastructure provider across various Layer 1, Layer 2 platforms and decentralized applications, we’ve observed that Sui’s Testnet was among the most challenging we’ve encountered. This, in our view, was a positive indicator. Networks that undergo rigorous testing during their Testnet phase typically inspire greater confidence as they transition to Mainnet. The principle is straightforward: the more thorough the testing, the more robust the improvements once the network goes live.

A highlight for our team during the Testnet was securing third place in the SUI Testnet Wave 2, narrowly missing the top spot. This phase of the Testnet was unique as it featured direct competition among validators. Moreover, we take pride in the technical performance of our Validators in both the Testnet and Mainnet operations. To date, they have operated flawlessly, showcasing top-tier infrastructure and some of the best operational skills in the validator market.

The Sui Blockchain: a unique approach to scalability, efficiency and usability

There are a couple of primary innovations brought to the blockchain ecosystem by the Sui protocol, compared to other Layer 1 networks, that make it stand out.

  1. Programming Language — Move: The Sui blockchain adopted the Move programming language, initially created by Facebook for its Libra initiative. Move, designed to be a platform agnostic language, enables the development of shared libraries, tools, and a unified developer community. This approach is intended to support a wide array of blockchains, despite their differing data and execution models, ensuring broad applicability and adaptability.
  2. Object-Centric Approach: Setting itself apart from the conventional account-based structure of many blockchains, Sui adopts an object-centric model. In this model, digital assets such as NFTs or tokens are treated as distinct entities, each with their own characteristics and histories. This unique approach facilitates more effective and versatile interactions with digital assets.
  3. Parallel Execution: Engineered for both high-speed processing and minimal latency, Sui enhances performance through parallel transaction execution. This method contrasts with the typical sequential processing seen in many current blockchains, often a limiting factor in scalability.
  4. Consensus Mechanism: Sui incorporates a consensus mechanism optimized for rapid and efficient transaction processing, aiding in maintaining both high throughput and robust security.
  5. Flexible and Efficient Data Model: The data architecture within Sui is designed for versatility, accommodating a broad spectrum of applications efficiently. It supports the creation of user-defined, lightweight objects, thereby simplifying the development process for a diverse range of scalable applications.
  6. User Experience: Sui’s architecture also prioritizes user experience improvements. It aims to simplify the use of blockchain-based applications by reducing transaction fee complexities and streamlining user interactions.

Engaging with the Sui Ecosystem: 10 Ways for Community Members to Get Involved

  1. Staking. Participating in the staking process is a highly influential way for community members of a Proof of Stake network to get actively involved in its course and development. More than just a means to earn extra rewards, staking empowers token holders to exercise their influence and make significant contributions to the network’s operations. This involvement includes the strategic selection of Validators to whom tokens are delegated, promoting the decentralization of the network. To support community members in this process, we have developed two detailed staking guides for the Sui blockchain, which were made available soon after the launch of its Mainnet: Staking Guide for Staking SUI tokens using Ledger & the Sui Wallet and Staking Guide for Staking SUI tokens using the Sui Wallet.
  2. Sui Basecamp. Sui has excitingly revealed its first-ever global conference: Sui Basecamp, scheduled for April 10th-11th in the beautiful city of Paris! This event presents a fantastic chance to engage with the Sui community, delve deeper into the ecosystem, and gain insights on industry trends, economics, cryptography, regulatory aspects, and the Move programming language. Expect engaging workshops, ample networking opportunities, and more. Don’t forget to mark your calendars, discover further details, and secure your tickets at: https://sui.io/basecamp.
