Blockchain Memes
The enthusiasm for cryptocurrencies and Blockchain technology has grown over the years, and has always had a very enthusiastic community. After the advent of online forums like 4Chan and Reddit, a trend on the internet has been to create and share memes related to whatever the community is participating in. The Blockchain community has seen no shortage of this on its forums, mainly bitcointalk.org and cryptocurrency subReddits. Let’s check out some memes related to the world of cryptocurrency and their effect — like a Lambo on the moon.
HODLing
This first appeared on the bitcointalk.org forum in 2013 from a member name GameKyuubi. The title of his post was ‘I AM HODLING’. In his signoff he remarks having drank some whiskey, perhaps the misspelling can be blamed on that. HODLing was originally a typo that has been widely accepted and grown into a humorous backronym: Hold On for Deal Life.
To the Moon
In reference to the tendency of the price of various cryptocurrencies to undergo astronomical price rises, prompting the claim that the price of a coin will one day reach the moon.
This has also prompted members of the cryptocurrency that one day they’ll all be driving “Lambos on the moon”. The community has grown to actively creating objects related to the memes in real life, rather than just having some fun with MSPaint, people are making posters and weaving sweaters. All this activity creates hype for the movement. There’s even a song: https://www.audiomack.com/song/a-tribe-called-crypto/lambos-on-the-moon
www.hodlmoon.com sells hand-knit cryptocurrency sweaters.
Let’s not forget DogeCoin
Finally, let’s not forget DogeCoin, a cryptocurrency that’s existence in intertwined with the benefits of a meme promoting a thing.
Social movements and cult followings are present for various things in the world. It just so happens that with cryptocurrency there’s an abundance. It is very beneficial, and it promotes what’s being discussed. Many of the memes are very enthusiastic, keeping the community’s mentality positive in general.
