Welcome to the Patch Work Report, where I recap the top 3 performers at each position in fantasy football from the previous week of NFL games. All points are referencing the Chalk Daily Fantasy Sports official scoring rules. Visit Chalk DFS to compete in fantasy football for real cash prizes each week.

Honorable mention: Trevor Siemian (33.82), Ryan Tannehill (32.8), Matt Barkley (28.64)

Drew Brees: 310 passing yards, 4 passing TDs, 1 Fumble

The Saints offense, more specifically Drew Brees, get some sort of super power when they play at home. That’s the only explanation for their success in New Orleans vs. on the road. This week they made an absolute mockery of a very good Rams defense. Brees distributed the ball to 8 different pass catchers, but somehow forgot to look for Brandin Cooks who ended the day with zero catches. His success didn’t come without a price though…

Colin Kaepernick: 296 passing yards, 3 passing TDs, 1 Int, 113 yards rushing Have yourself a day Mr. Kaepernick! In hindsight, this seems like an obvious outcome despite Kaeps recent struggles. The Dolphins defense is best described as big bruisers that lack pace and their secondary is very mediocre. Insert a lighting fast QB with a mostly inaccurate, but cannon of an arm, and you can get fireworks

Kirk Cousins: 449 passing yards, 3 passing TDs

Hey, news flash Washington, Captain Kirk is worth every single dollar. Pay up! Dallas’ defense is by no means a force, but because of their determination to not give up big plays combined with their offenses’ slow grinding pace, they have kept opposing QBs to modest numbers all season. What is even more shocking about Cousin’s performance is that he did it on a short week after an emotional Sunday night win against the Packers. There is just one final question to ask…

Honorable Mention: Ezekiel Elliott (26), Le’Veon Bell (24.2), Devonta Freeman (21.6)

David Johnson: 58 rushing yards, 8 receptions, 103 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD

Because the Cardinals were playing from behind for most of this game, DJ got the majority of his 20+ touches as a receiver. When it comes to Chalk’s official scoring system, this is a huge advantage. He managed 30 points while only finding the end zone just once. This guy is on a different level.

Mark Ingram: 146 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD, 1 reception, 21 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD

Raise your hand if you played Mark Ingram in DFS this week and expected this production… don’t lie, keep your hand down. Ingram spent the week in concussion protocol and wasn’t expected to be cleared in time for this game. Even if he was going to be cleared in time, he was going to split work with Tim Hightower, and they were playing a defense where your best shot to beat them is through the air. Let’s just say Ingram got cleared in time and was quite efficient. 15 touches for 167 yards and 2 TDs might as well be the definition of efficiency.

LeSean McCoy: 103 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs, 2 receptions, 31 receiving yards

McCoy was going unnoticed and unowned in the DFS world because of his thumb injury and the nice matchups for a lot of other big name RBs. That made McCoy the perfect large tournament play, especially when news got out he was fine to catch the ball. As long as this offense is depleted of pass catchers, expect a heavy workload for McCoy.

Honorable mention: Emmanuel Sanders (29.2), Tyreek Hill (28.9), Davante Adams (28.3)

Antonio Brown: 5 receptions, 91 receiving yards, 3 receiving TDs

Someone from the Steelers was going to have to have a big game in this spot against an awful Colts defense. Le’Veon Bell did his damage in the yardage department but the majority of the TDs went to Antonio. There isn’t a WR with a safer floor with as high of a ceiling in the NFL.

Michael Thomas: 9 receptions, 108 receiving yards, 2 receiving TDs

If it wasn’t clear before, it certainly is now. Michael Thomas is the number 1 receiver on the New Orleans Saints. That title carries a ton of weight in DFS. He led the team in all categories, targets, receptions, yards and TDs. Meanwhile Brandin Cooks had 0 catches.

Mike Evans: 8 receptions, 104 receiving yards, 2 receiving TDs

The Legion of Boom came strolling into Tampa Bay, but Evans didn’t get the memo. In all fairness, the Seahawks were missing a starting CB and Kam Chancellor. Evans also got away with some serious holding on Richard Sherman when he hauled in a 26-yard TD, but I think that makes it all the sweeter, right? I mean come on, the Seahawks are known for being the physical bullies. It is nice seeing them get pushed around a little.

Honorable mention: Dion Sims (15.3), Lance Kendricks (15.1), Jermaine Gresham (14.5)

Jordan Reed: 10 receptions, 95 receiving yards, 2 receiving TDs

I say “honorable mention” after the top 3 performers, but really that section should begin after Jordan Reed. I mean the guy nearly doubled the score of the 2nd best TE on the week. We knew Reed was capable of these type of days, but it’s been awhile since we have seen it. Injuries have kept him from consistently being on the field and this offense simply has too many mouths to feed to ever feel confident rostering him.

Tyler Eifert: 5 receptions, 68 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD

Despite this being an in division and physical matchup with the Ravens, Eifert put up a decent stat line. With A.J. Green out, Andy Dalton had to find someone to throw to. I expect Eifert to do more with 11 targets, but in a week where TEs were mediocre, this will do.

Kyle Rudolph: 9 receptions, 64 receiving yards

I am happy Kyle Rudolph got to 64 receiving yards and not 62, because otherwise I would have to write about Dion Sims. I know close to nothing about Dion Sims except for the fact that he is on the Dolphins. I would have had to spend even more time watching highlights and reading for someone who only scored 15 points. The ironic part is I am supposed to be discussing Rudolph, but I wrote about Sims instead.
