Welcome to the Patch Work Report, where I recap the top 3 performers at each position in fantasy football from the previous week of NFL games. All points are referencing the Chalk Daily Fantasy Sports official scoring rules. Visit Chalk DFS to compete in fantasy football and other sports for real cash prizes each week!

Honorable mention: Carson Palmer (20.72), Cam Newton (20) Matt Ryan (19.34)

Drew Brees: 389 passing yards, 4 passing TDs

Drew Brees has put up stat lines like this many times before, but what made this such a surprise was that he did it against a very good defense and he did it in Arizona. Brees’ career stats are significantly worse on the road vs. at home. At the very least, Brees reminded the fantasy world that he is still a hall of fame quarterback.

Matt Moore: 236 passing yards, 4 passing TDs, 1 INT

The craziest thing about Matt Moore finishing as the second highest scoring QB on the week is not the fact that he is Matt Moore… but it is that he did it with just 18 pass attempts! To put that into perspective, Brees had 48 and Russell Wilson had 26. Moore is actually a talented QB that has a cannon for an arm. I think for the rest of the season, as long as his matchup is good, he should put up respectable numbers. I doubt the Dolphins ask him to throw much though.

Russel Wilson: 229 passing yards, 3 passing TDs, 1 INT, 12 yards rushing

After having a horrific 5 interception game in Green Bay during week 14, Wilson got to return home to play against an embarrassing Rams team. It was a bounce back spot for him and he took full advantage of it as the Seahawks cruised to a 24–3 victory. Next up he has a less forgiving Cardinals defense

Honorable mention: Bilal Powell (27.2), David Johnson (26.8), Jordan Howard (21.3)

Devonta Freeman: 139 rushing yards, 3 rushing TDs, 2 receptions, 16 receiving yards

Freeman had the dream matchup against the league worse run defense. Each week when building your lineups, you basically have a free square, like in Bingo, where you put whatever RB is playing the 49ers. There was only one of Freeman’s TD runs that was challenged by the defense; the other two he walked right in.

Lesean McCoy: 153 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs, 3 receptions, 16 receiving yards

Much like Freeman’s situation, McCoy had the dream matchup at home against the Browns. The Bills score nearly twice as many points when playing at home vs. the road and McCoy is their main source of offensive production. You could say the puzzle pieces fit together nicely for this.

Ezekiel Elliott: 159 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD, 3 receptions, 29 receiving yards

On Sunday night Zeke continued to have his way with defenses and eat his cereal. The rookie leads the league in rushing yards with 1,551, which is 300+ more than any other RB. The only thing that could slow him down now is his own team, that is if they decide to cut back his workload.

Honorable mention: Alshon Jeffery (20.9), Golden Tate (20.2), Jarvis Landry (19.8)

Brandin Cooks: 7 receptions, 186 receiving yards, 2 receiving TDs

Much like Brees’ performance, I did not see this coming. Early reports in the week suggested that Patrick Peterson, arguably the best shut down cornerback in the league, was going to follow Cooks around. Well, I did not see the whole game, but his two long TDs (65 yards, 45 yards) he was not matched up on Peterson. In the future, he might not leave Cooks.

Ty Montgomery: 162 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs, 2 receptions, 1 yard

Well this is a fun one. Although it was announced late in the week that Montgomery would be the lead RB for the Packers this week, I do not think anyone expected this production against a decent Bears run defense. The converted WR to RB was explosive and was very difficult to take down. It’ll be interesting to see if he can repeat the performance against the Vikings next week.

Tyler Lockett: 7 receptions, 130 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD

Just before the game it was reported that Lockett was taking most of the snaps as the number 2 WR for Seattle over Kearse. For most of the season Lockett has been stuck as the 3rd receiver on this team. Kearse is consistent and for the most part reliable, but Lockett is a true play maker. There is a good chance next week Doug Baldwin is matched up with Patrick Peterson, so Wilson could be going to Lockett again.

Honorable Mention: Kyle Rudolph (17.7), Ryan Griffin (16.5), Jared Cook (14.5)

Charles Clay: 7 receptions, 72 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD

Clay has been a total bust this season. Really awful. That being said, this was his second productive week in a row. The strange part about it is, his production has been better with Sammy Watkins in the lineup. Maybe Watkins is taking attention away from him, but that seems like a lazy answer. Either way, it’s hard to trust him just because of two good games.

Dion Sims: 4 receptions, 31 receiving yards, 2 receiving TDs

Sims has actually produced some decent fantasy weeks lately. That being said, he will also be hard to trust next week considering his QB only threw the ball 18 times.

Cameron Brate: 5 receptions, 73 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD

Jameis Winston continued to “Make Cameron Brate, Again” by targeting him just as many times as Mike Evans. He is the legitimate number two receiver on this team now, and with teams looking to double and triple cover Evans, it leaves him with a lot of opportunities to produce. Quite the break out season for the Stanford Alum.
