A Drop of a Hat
In response to Harper Thorpe’s emotional prompt.
Why can’t I cry for all the lost souls
No, not that;
Yet show me a Hallmark commercial,
It makes me cry at the drop of a hat.

Are we becoming too desensitized to death and violence? I sometimes have to wonder. The things that get an emotional response from me lately, aren’t the things that should. It’s not just Hallmark either, it could be Folger’s or Budweiser…you get the point. It’s not that they aren’t sad or touching, but why am I not crying constantly about the state of things as they are, the thousands dying all over the world? Am I, are we, becoming numb? If so, that should make us cry right there.
