“I never know the rules”
he says,
wondering which flower,
which cake,
which gift
would please her now —
while she smiles:
“Silly boy —
there are no rules
— it just
ㅤㅤㅤㅤdepends…”

Written in response to Jk Mansi’s delightfully wide open prompt “Rules” (see below), and with thanks to Kathy Jacobs and the ever-fertile inspiration and imagination of the entire Chalkboard community. A sardonic twist on my husband’s personal catch phrase: “I don’t know the rules!”
