Autumn’s Embrace
(197)
Autumn came in the front door with the forgotten cold. As a quiet rain coated every surface it intensified the splendor of color. This morning became a chore of finding the last open windows. Waiting for her arrival I did my best to welcome sleeping temperatures every evening. She lingered somewhere north allowing the growing season another week. Thanking her for her kindness meant omitting my need for a better nights sleep.
Tall thin, pirouette —
arms embracing the cold air,
tell me of spring soil.
