A response to the prompt by C McClung

Cemented

in mediocrity,

limited by luck

and lack of talent,

plastered to the practical,

I can’t move up,

just forward

through the motions.

Gravity is a force beyond your control that pulls you down and keeps you in place, you can work with it but not against it. Here I was thinking about the forces that tie me to my career. I’m disappointed in my current position and my days are lackluster. I have a lot of friends who have bustling careers, many of them are artists. When speaking about forces against us, I brought up my lack of talent because I am not as artistically inclined as some of my friends. It’s not possible for me to be successful in an unconventional way, so I stick to the straight and narrow. I’m in a practical industry. And I like my industry! However, the positions I have held have not been ones I’m enthusiastic about. I mention lack of luck because I think sometimes it takes a little luck to get the “dream position” and I seem to be short on that. Anyway, I know this is a relatable experience for many, right now I’m chalking it up to being in my 20s, but I’m definitely not getting any younger. I hope to feel less stuck in the next decade.
