His neglect left my heart
hard like peanut brittle
browsed the aisles to
find something sweeter
your love softened me
to a gooey jujube.

Jujube is the name one of my children gave me, and also one of my favorite candies from childhood at Wenger’s in Connaught Place in New Delhi, India. Reclaiming, reclaiming, reclaiming my life….
