So, about three years ago, I began writing a story. It was really a protest hidden in the guise of a short horror/sci-fi/fiction tale.
I thought people might not espouse my views on this particular issue (anti fur use), but that if I could craft a story well enough, I could maybe get the message across without hitting people over the head with it.
So I wrote an outline. Then I began working on filling it out. It began to take shape. I finished a rough draft and gave it to a couple of friends. They liked it, but suggested some small changes. I went back to editing, made those changes and found some thing I thought needed adding in.
I set it aside, planning to leave it for a few months and then re-visit it.
Meantime, I contacted some anti fur use sites (Make Fur History was one) and asked for permission to use some of their images, which I got.
I looked at the images and figured I really could not use these as main illustrations for the story since they are particularly brutal. They definitely did not tie into the plan to send a strong but subtle message.
I went back to the draft after a year and made some more changes. After re-reading it I concluded that my strength is NOT Horror/Sci-fi/fiction. I am at heart a photo-journalist. Not too bad an effort for a newbie — but still not quite where I wanted it.
I put the draft out of sight for another year. I talked to some fellow creatives about it and considered that it might make a cool film short, using anime style images!
Unfortunately I don’t know many of this type of artist, and young filmmakers usually have their hands full with school and other projects. I talked to one who was interested, but way too busy to help out.
The draft went on hold for another year and now I think it’s time to see if there is anyone out there who might be interested in collaborating with me on the story.
Writers who are strong in Horror/Sci-Fi and feel like adding their craft to my story, illustrators who are good at drawing animals, people, etc. People who have a passion for issues, people who have a passion for animal rights. Just plain people who might like to collaborate on this project.
