My Funny Valentine
Where love takes the funny road
As February comes in, there is one festival that garners eyes and hearts — Valentine’s Day. The days leading to the fourteenth are peppered with red hearts crossed in love, smiling red hearts, cute couple photographs…all the paraphernalia of romance. But for some, romance and love take the funny road where shared laughter and pranks take center stage rather than all-out romantic gestures. This year, we at Chalkboard would like to celebrate this fun, lively and beautiful way of saying those three words — I love you.
How does it work?
Every Friday for the month of February, we will publish an image containing a funny Valentine gift received (or could possibly be received). Write a piece — poetry, fiction, memoir, anything goes — inspired by any one of the prompt images. The entries will be published throughout February as and when they are received. The only deadline is the final end date for the project — 4th March 2018.
If you would like to participate in this challenge, please leave a note in the comments confirming your participation. Once you are done with your story and if you are already a writer at Chalkboard, please submit your draft as usual. If you would like to be added as a writer, please leave a note in the comments and you will be added. If you would like feedback from the Chalkboard Editors prior to publishing, please submit earlier drafts with a note at the top, saying “TK for feedback.”

Submission guidelines
- All submissions must be in the form of drafts submitted to Chalkboard.
- Tag your submission with “My Funny Valentine” All other tags are yours to use.
- Please use an image in your piece, because it makes our homepage look great. Ensure they are properly attributed. If you are not the image creator, include a link that shows licensing information.
- The challenge will end on 4th March 2018.
