Chalkboard’s Inspiration Celebration project is back! Help us fill our Medium wall of fame. Tell us… Whose writings inspire you? Whose writings make you want to write? Whose writings get you clapping? Whose writings do you think more people need to read?

Just like the first time around, we are looking for pieces that bring writers you love to the attention of Chalkboard’s readers. We don’t care what your inspiration writes about, we just care that they inspire you. Pick someone…

  • Who opens your mind and your heart
  • Who always makes you go “Ohh!” or “Hmmm…”
  • Who makes you think
  • Who deserves to be recognized

Once you know who your inspiration is, write a piece about them to share here on the Chalkboard.

Everyone is welcome to participate. Here’s how:

  1. Write a piece about the writer who inspires you
  2. Give the image an appropriate picture at least 900 pixels on at least one side
  3. Attribute your image
  4. Title the piece “Inspiration:” and the name of your person
  5. Link the name of the person to their Medium profile (either by @’ing them or by tagging them in the actual piece.)
  6. Make three of the tags “Chalkboard”, “Inspiration”, and “Celebration”
  7. If you’d like to publish your response outside of Chalkboard, please do so. But we’d love to see it, so please also respond to this call for participants with a link to your published submission
  8. If you aren’t a writer for Chalkboard but you want us to host the piece, @CallKathy in your piece and leave me a note. I will get you added to the publication as a writer!

Pieces will be published when you get them to us. This time around, we will be accepting pieces for one month: today (Sept. 13, 2017, California time) to October 13, 2017 (whatever time I get it closed).

Want to challenge yourself? Try writing about your inspiration in a form that you associate with them. If I were to write about Tamyka Bell, I would definitely do a poem of some form or another. If I were to write about Harper Thorpe, I would write the piece with humor and a touch of satire.

FAQs:

Are there any style requirements for this collaboration?

While this project is an outgrowth of our one line poems ongoing project, you don’t have to match any particular pattern or length in you piece. We want to see the person and/or why they inspire you.

Do you have some examples of the kinds of pieces you are looking for?

While we are open to any kind of piece for this collaboration, I know that starting can be the hardest part of writing. To get you started, here are some of the pieces from our first round:

Go forth and write! Be inspired!
