Updates? We’ve got them!
Extending Let me edit that for you
We’ve had a few late stories added, as well as some new editors, so we are extending this project. Read on to learn more.
What is this about again?
This collaboration is all about small changes that can move a story in a different way. Stories submitted will be edited slightly — Editors will add a phrase to the story in a way that turns it slightly.
So, what kind of edits are we talking about? Merely the addition of a phrase, such as:
- then the murders began
- save for the cow
- in accordance with the prophecy.
We have a total of 21 phrases for editors to choose from.
If you wanted to write a story
Had a story idea, but couldn’t bring it to completion in time in under 500 words, have I got a deal for you! We have increased the word limit to 1000 words. We have extended the deadline for stories to Wednesday, August 2.
- Submit a flash fiction story of no more than 1000 words in length.
- Of you are a Chalkboard writer, submit the story to us with a TK at the top that reads “EditThat story”
- If you aren’t a Chalkboard writer, I will add you. Once you get the notification, submit the story to us with a TK at the top that reads “EditThat story”
Which brings us to the second change to the process….
Want to sign up to be an editor? Sign up to be an editor by Thursday, August 3. I will send you an email with the story links and the list of phrases. You will have until Monday August 7th to make your changes. (But please, have pity on me. Let me know you are in by replying to my email.)
Stories submitted will have one or more phrases added to them. I have seen some of the changes to the stories we already have — believe me they make a difference in the story.
Before you submit your story…
We’ve got a few requests for how you lay it out.
Images
We’ve recently heard stories of commercial entities in the US suing bloggers for using their copyright images. Please don’t let that happen to us! Make sure any images you use are licensed appropriately — a safe bet is sticking to CC0 or public domain — and correctly attributed.
(Yes, we know you don’t need to attribute CC0 images, but it doesn’t take long to add a link, and it lets everyone see the licensing information. Also, don’t you think we all deserve recognition for our creative work, even when we put it out there for free?)
Want to make Kathy really happy? Like, ecstatic? Make your featured image at least 900 pixels on at least one side.
Tags
Please make sure to add the tag “Edit That” to your story before you submit it. You’re welcome to use any other tags we like, but using both “Flash Fiction” and “Short Story” will help readers find you and boost your views and reads stats.
