Her soul floated upon still water;
A pantomime of life made with ripples.
Vermillion threads flowed blood to blood
Macabre tapestry of of muted color.
Bitter air slipped between trembling fingers:
Last rites whispered with warm trembling breath.

Emotions condensed
Falling silent over paling cheekbones,
Without edges arising:
Shallow breath, silent weeping, quiet prayer.

To fall in a deeper starvation
Unedingly fed sacrifice and loss,
Of a potion that offers no healing
Perchance, sweet mercy, a painless end:
For beyond this, what matter does earth?
Hollowed heart and belly, broken back and will.

Where leaking scars are unseen, swim there
To dark sky and darker waters merging,
Stroke for stroke, closing in, drowning out
Inner voices, shattered dreams choked silent.
Diving in an all-giving, all-emptying last surrender
To the blackness, the mystery, the end,
Melding sins to absolutions
No penance required to open that door.
She forgave life and let go
All the pain floating away in bubbles.
Adieu, mon ami.
Pouvons-nous nous retrouver.
