Wow, what an epic collaboration we had this October! I hope everyone had a great Halloween (those who do celebrate anyway).

We’ve had 39 mind blowing submissions as part of the project. Chains that continued on and on like your favorite thriller as our writers freed themselves from their curses. If you haven’t read them, seriously you’re missing out. If you’ve been tagged recently and haven’t had time to finish it, don’t worry. We’ll keep accepting responses, just not new prompts and at the end of your piece you do not need to tag anyone. November is a very forgiving month.

We had 4 writers who’ve had all their tagged chains successfully survived, read them and follow the chain at: Sam’s The Darkness Descending, Ré Harris’s Somehow Safer Now, Kay Bolden’s Seeing to Her Safety, Brian Fehler’s Wayward Twilight Companies.

Honestly, us editors at Chalkboard had our reservations. We didn’t know if people were into scary and spooky (except for Jack and Tamyka, that is), and we thought the threatening nature of the chain will turn people away. We’ve come to realize that there are more dark writers out there than we thought, and that ‘pointing a gun to people’s head’ actually work. Ha. Kidding.

But most of all we were amazed at the quality of the work that we received. It was all well-thought disturbing pieces of work that will stay with us editors for a long time (and hopefully the readers, too).

I must shout out to my fellow editors who really have run with the project here, Kathy Jacobs who relentlessly reviewed all the submissions and published them, Tamyka Bell and Indira Reddy for their ever wisdom and prompt pieces, Harper Thorpe for reviewing and publishing too! We wouldn’t have this project without you.

We super hope that our next collab will be at least as fun and successful to run. See you in a few bits, expect exciting things!
