The seventh, or “Third Eye”, chakra is said to allow for clear thought, spiritual contemplation, and self-reflection. As the most perceptive part of the human body and spirit, it governs self-awareness, higher wisdom, visualization, clarity, discernment, imagination, and creative dreaming.

Chakra (cakra in Sanskrit) means “wheel” and refers to energy points in your body. They are thought to be spinning disks of energy that should stay “open” and aligned, as they correspond to bundles of nerves, major organs, and areas of our energetic body that affect our emotional and physical well-being.

Some say there are 114 different chakras, but there are seven main chakras that run along your spine. These are the chakras that most of us are referring to when we talk about them.

When your third eye chakra is blocked or out of balance, a variety of physiological (like tension in the brow area, headaches, eye strain, blurred vision, sinus issues, hearing problems, or dizziness), mental (like dissociation, issues concentrating, nightmares, sleep disturbances, mental fog, and confusion), emotional (such as self-doubt, worry, overthinking, close-mindedness, feeling lost, or relying on others for validation and permission), and spiritual ailments (such as a lack of confidence in one’s path or purpose, feeling an “absence” of intuition, or being too rooted in daydreams to focus on the present reality) can arise.

The goal of this exercise is to help you reflect on who you see yourself as. You can look at your current self and see if it aligns with your true self. This can help balance the third eye chakra.

Activity Steps:

  1. Think of words that describe who you truly are. You can write these down if it helps you remember. (e.g. radiant, adaptive, persistent, etc.)
  2. Think of patterns and symbols that represent these words and how they describe you. (e.g. radiant = radiating lines, adaptive = flowers/plants, persistent = raindrops, etc.)
  3. Sketch a “crown” that incorporates these. The crown should go down to the center of the forehead. (insert image here)
  4. Create this crown using whatever material you feel fits best. Ideally, you should be able to wear this crown.

5. Turn in a picture of you wearing this crown to your instructor.
