How do you view yourself? How do others view you? We all have insecurities and tend to nitpick different aspects of ourselves. Use drawing as a way to explore and let go of those insecurities. This is a partner activity. Team up with someone you know and explore perception through art.

  1. Team up with a student from your class or someone at home.
  2. We all have insecurities, draw yours in a collage or in a self-portrait.
  3. Ask your partner to give a list of how they view you. (As the partner, you should focus on the positives. See the beauty in your partner!)
  4. Take the qualities your partner gave you and transform them into a second drawing of yourself.
  5. Compare the two drawings and caste out the insecure one (after you’ve scanned it to turn in). Remember we might be our worst critics but we have so much beauty that shines through!
  6. Write a reflection about the assignment. Think about what you learned and what you might want to take with you.
  7. Scan a picture of both portraits and upload it to your teacher along with your free write.
