On Friday, September 29, 2017, Anne Faber decided to take a bicycle ride in Soest, a small town in the Netherlands rich with forests and meadows often used as training grounds for the Dutch armed forces. The 25-year-old rode her bike toward Den Dolder, a small village containing several shops, restaurants and schools.

Suddenly, a heavy downpour of rain began to fall. Anne took out her phone, snapped a selfie, and sent it to her boyfriend. The text was sent at 6:50 pm and it was the last time anyone heard from Anne.

Anne’s family reported her missing when she failed to return home that evening. Days went by and yet, none of Anne’s loved ones heard from her. Her family, friends, and her boyfriend formed a search party and for the next ten days, they spent every minute looking for Anne.
