The walls of my throat contract with desperation.
Each inhalation holds a scream of undiluted fear.
Each exhalation attempts to reason — to calm.

The steps are getting louder —
closer…

Drenched secured palm
over Lilith’s mouth
eyes lock and gaze
feeling no tomorrow
a hunt for hope,
unknown,
if it will be the last,
tears flood —
flash.

Protector
intense pressure
other palm, over her heart —
an innocent one,
an unexperienced
panic.

The footsteps creep — sound
the next step
two,
loud now
vibrations
see here —
one,
scream released
none,
your —
