Emotional Capital Manifesto
We Need to Claim Our Power Back
Read on my website /Reading time 3 min.
During the industrial age, societal and business norms limited our traditional strength, suppressing qualities like sensitivity, empathy, and emotional expression. Male sensitivity faced even greater challenges, being socially forbidden and shamed for a long time in favor of self-control.
Self-control is like a limited energy source. When it’s low, we struggle with negativity, feel vulnerable, and may avoid challenges and lose motivation. This impacts decision-making and performance. When drained, we dodge conflicts, polarise worldviews, and limit creativity. However, we are forced to focus on self-control based on the popular belief that “where attention goes, energy flows,” increasing the dose of it towards what we think is important for us.
Blocked sensitivity can lead to difficult personalities with various forms of psychological trauma, some of which are responsible for negative historical events. Society has fostered rigid forces, leading us to question why governmental bodies and corporate boardrooms are reluctant to aid communities, embrace diversity, and promote inclusivity for all.
We advocate for the significance of emotions in both personal and professional life.
We believe we were born to embrace emotions, the wellspring of our vitality, rather than suppress or control them, depleting our essence in favor of productivity. Our stories and conversations bring forth the idea that to flourish in business, leadership, and life, we must harness the full spectrum of our emotions.
This underscores the pivotal role of Emotional Capital in decision-making processes, advocating for leaders to employ empathy, self-awareness, and social skills to foster sustainable and ethical business practices. By prioritizing emotional skills, professionals across industries can foster environments that encourage innovation and resilience, ensuring their organizations are not only profitable but also constructive forces within their communities.
Imagine a world where empathy reigns, emotional engagement thrives, and people are seers of potential, not shepherds of productivity. That’s the future we dream of and want to live in. While not everyone is born into wealth, many achieve financial freedom. The same should be done with the dormant power of emotions.
We discovered that human potential is tied to emotions, which guide us toward well-being, from slavery industrial workplaces and the welfare ideology for just a few. By fostering emotional engagement through sensitivity, we are meant to feel, know, and understand more, transform faster, and utilize more parts of our brain. This asset fosters increased empathy, inclusiveness, flexibility, creativity, originality, intuition, and innovation, transforming competition into cooperation.
We must reclaim our dormant emotional capacity and develop Emotional Capital for people, the planet, and prosperity. We invite you to fully own, grow, and apply your emotional capital to realize true human potential.
