How To Stay True To Yourself
Are you on the quest for self-discovery?
Are you on the quest for self-discovery?
Many people are, and they spend countless hours embracing different environments and cultures which are external influences in their life.
Being true to yourself and your values is not as simple as it was in previous centuries. The world has changed so drastically that people are being swayed further away from themselves and their core values. Not to mention how dark the world has become.
We are all different in our way and should be allowed to contribute to life as how we see it and not for what it should be.
“To be true to yourself means to act by who you are and what you believe.”
If you are feeling overwhelmed, don’t panic! I can relate.
I will be guiding you through this article, getting you to realise how great it is to be your own best friend. Your life will change for the better, naturally exploring, doing things you have always wanted to do and also removing any unwanted bad energy.
Now, let’s get one more step closer to being the person you were always meant to be.
Taking time to regroup
Firstly, it can be easy to get caught up in the wrong situations or you feel that you are caught up in a cycle of stress and anxiety. This can be very draining on your energy output. You might find yourself following a crowd or doing things to please the people around you. A key example would be that you might not be as sociable as your friends, and you are constantly being dragged out resulting in you using up your time, energy and most likely your money. On the contrary, you might be going through a tough situation and you’re struggling to find a suitable solution for your problem.
You need to be by yourself.
Take some time out of your day to sit with yourself and assess your life. It does not have to be long — it could be 15 minutes or even 30. Allowing yourself time to rethink and regroup will help you to go out and face any obstacle.
When you are by yourself, you can process what has happened that day. It does not have to be bad nor does it have to be good. Processing situations will allow us to make peace with the past and carry on moving forward. It will also develop your thought process so you can gain a better perspective, which you will eventually be able to share with others.
EXAMPLE OF REGROUPING
A good way to assess your life/situation is to visualise yourself sitting at a table. I tend to use this method a lot when I feel overwhelmed.
The table at the moment is very messy — you are unable to control anything in your life. Examples could be your love life, finance, family or work.
Considering that there is no organisation, you should unravel the mess. Start to organise into sections and then develop a plan to tackle every problem you have.
It will give you clarity once everything is completed and also hold you accountable for anything that is put on that table.
Do not run away from the issue
If you are not confident in yourself and your ability then it will be hard to spend time by yourself. For some of us (including myself), we are our own worst enemy.
It can be hard to go to yourself when you find it hard to believe in yourself. You may find it easier to vent to others who may be able to help. Speaking to others is a good way to release unwanted energy and gain a new perspective. I think that forming your perspective would be a better option instead of speaking to others. You were brought into this world by yourself so you have to have your own back.
After you have regrouped, do not run away from the issue. Spending time away from it may influence you to go on and do other things. But deflecting from the root of the issue tends to have worse circumstances. Inherited issues usually stem from not dealing with a problem. The worst thing to do is to hide from a problem and let it build up internally.
On the contrary, you do not even have to form a solution to the problem. As long as you have made peace with it. Acceptance will help you move forward.
The first step was to regroup and find yourself in the abyss of life. Next, it is about being comfortable with being uncomfortable. Lots of us tend to run away from issues but it is important to have faith in ourselves!
Address the situation
Having spent time with yourself, the next step is to address the situation. You need to be able to look at whatever lies in front of you without fear.
The objective is to be able to understand yourself enough to carry out the task at hand and complete it successfully. Previously, you have taken time to re-evaluate and you have also motivated yourself to not turn back, now you just need to tackle it.
Some might think this section is the easiest and others will find it the hardest.
Confidence is a big factor to grasp. By not running away from issues, you have already subconsciously decided to face your fears. Now, you may not have the courage to attack a situation yourself, but it is important to see how far you have come. I tend to show gratitude in times like this to inspire me to keep pushing.
You should be confident in your ability to handle yourself. Worrying about others and what they may think is a common mistake and a major contributor to a knock on self-esteem. Do not give in. Always back yourself in any situation. Having your own back will provide you with a power greater than anything.
Having the confidence and courage to take that first step to growth is all you need. No obstacle will stand in your way and you have a killer instinct mindset to not let anything hold you down or stop you.
Conclusion
The steps above are what I have learnt from life in recent years. I wanted to share these thoughts with you to influence and help as some people do not have the right guidance around them.
What I wanted you to realise is that you can learn a lesson about yourself every day. Despite what is going on around you, you will still have to adapt and overcome. Following these steps will allow you to check in and ensure you are being at one with yourself. Having solitude and confidence in yourself will allow you to overcome hurdles — providing you with wisdom to share with others. You will never know how many lives you can touch with one good piece of advice!
A vision that you can use is that life is a canvas and it is never too late to create your masterpiece.
