Another Step Towards Change

Throughout this week I have been conducting a small experiment. I have been trying to increase the efficiency of my studying through learning to focus while many distractions are around me. I am studying at home for the entire week, trying to drown out all the distractions and noises of my household. I hope to better understand how I can retain more information from what I am studying, while keeping complete focus on my work, the entire time I am studying.

Second Update

To sum up my first update, I went home to study after my class and came home to a very lively house, full of distractions. I tried to study and focus as best as i could, but found myself distracted quite often. Although, I did get distracted quite a few times, I did notice that it was less than the first time I attempted this. Which led me to believe that I am slowly adapting to noise in my household and will hopefully be able to study peacefully regardless of the situation. This time, I noticed fewer times that I got distracted. I got through one more section of my textbook, than I did in the previous trial. The progress is minimal and with me only have started this a few days ago. But progress is progress and I will continue this until I feel satisfactory with my results.

What I have Learned So Far

So far I have learned a few things. First off, change does not happen overnight. I wish it did, but it does not. I have improved in some small aspects, but I am able to focus a little bit more on my work now. I also think that I am slightly more efficient with my homework and studying in regards to time management. I know this because of the small changes that I am seeing from the first time I attempted this to the last time I did this and how each time I have improved a little bit. Lastly, I learned that time management has a crucial role in trying to adapt to something. If you are going to run a trail and test how you change over a period of time, then you need to manage your time and accomplish your tasks within a reasonable amount of time.

Next Time

For my last attempt of this week I am going to do the same trial that I have done the last two times. I can never control the distractions but I am going to ask that my family make a little more noise then usual to simulate a more difficult studying environment. Hopefully it works out.
