High Fives All Around: Ann Gets the Praise She Deserves

Financial change means different things to different people. For one, it may be sticking to a budget for the first time in eons; for another, it could be meeting savings objectives for a palpable goal. Whatever the reason, users all over the United States are experiencing change thanks to Change. In this series, you’ll get a glimpse of the ways Change has made an impact on the way others think about, and handle, money in their everyday lives.

Today, we bring you the answers of Ann K. Lindquist, an Art Director from Minneapolis, MN with a penchant for minimalism and a standby dream to visit Iceland. Yeah, you guessed it — round trip tickets to Iceland don’t come cheap, without even accounting for student loan payments. But Ann’s not one to shy away from a challenge. In fact, she’s already made some real changes to her spending, but we’ll let her tell you all about it in her words below.

Which message do you remember the most?

“You charged a grand total of $0 on your credit card this past weekend. Yep, zero. Teach us your ways!”

Why was it interesting to you?

“This message validated something that I was intentionally doing. It was like having a best friend notice you’ve lost weight… but instead it was around finances and almost like a digital high-five for something that is a big habit change.”

Do you feel a change in your spending behavior?

“I think overall yes. I have only been using Change for a couple of weeks but I think for me it just keeps finances top of mind vs a plastic piece that I swipe and don’t feel the repercussions of until it’s time to pay the bill. This way, it sets me up to think about how I am going to be spending my money daily.”

Do you feel more aware of your financial status?

“Yes. Simple answer but it’s the truth.”

What is your toughest financial challenge at the moment?

“Paying off student debt. I am very in this “live in the moment” so I want to be able to go out for dinner or drinks with friends a few times a week. But sometimes making the choice to stay in and pay that extra $50 towards debt should be my priority…but it’s easy to forget my overall goal when someone invites me out.”

If you could save money with us, what would you save for?

“The ability to travel without tapping into my emergency savings, the ability to have some money towards a downpayment on a house…what WOULDN’T I save for if I could?”

It sounds like you’re on the right track, Ann — and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be there right beside you. The changes you’ve implemented in your spending warrant more than a few “digital high fives” as you put it, and there are even more coming your way.
