Reid Hoffman Leads Investment Round

Berkeley, Calif. — April 18, 2018 — Change Research, a public benefit corporation that provides fast, affordable and accurate public-opinion polling, announced it has closed its seed round of investment that will enable it to help great candidates win in 2018. The investments will help Change Research reach and help more forward-thinking candidates and causes, including minorities and women candidates.

Reid Hoffman, co-founder and executive chairman of LinkedIn leads our investment round. We are also happy to announce our relationship with Higher Ground Labs, an incubator fund formed by a group of President Barack Obama administration and campaign alumni.

Since its launch in July 2017, Change Research has worked with dozens of candidates, campaigns and causes. With its methodology and patent-pending Bias Correct technology, Change Research builds representative and large sample groups of the voter population that accurately reflect regional and national demographics.

Higher Ground Lab’s Betsy Hoover said, “Change Research is the fast, accurate and affordable polling option that will catapult Democratic campaigns over the competition.”

Change Research has served a wide array of candidates and causes across the United States. As of April 2018, more than half of our candidate clients are women, and over a third are people of color.

“Dozens of candidates — from city council to the highest offices — have told me they didn’t have enough insights to win their elections.” said Mike Greenfield, co-founder and CEO of Change Research. “They didn’t know where they stand, or what voters want. We are giving them the information they need to win.”

When Carolyn Nichols campaigned for a judgeship on the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, some doubted her her viability. Tricia Mueller, Nichols’ campaign manager, said: “Everyone said an African American Democratic woman couldn’t win statewide in Pennsylvania. We had raised a fraction of what you need to run competitively, so every penny counted.”

But then they hired Change Research to test messages and improve her campaign strategy in advance of the election. She won and became the first African American woman elected to the Pennsylvania Superior Court.

“Change Research identified likely voters in every major city and tested messaging against competitors” Mueller said. “We spent 90% less than what you would spend on a traditional poll.”
