13 Resolutions That Might Not Be Mainstream, but Are Really Life-Changing
Treat them more as habits than resolutions and start seeing results.
New year, new you. 2023 has already begun and just like every other year, you might be ready with resolutions that you really want to implement this year. But have you ever thought about the small changes in your life? I guess not.
See the changes we keep/want as a new year resolution are most of the time mainstream like — eating healthy, starting to work out, or quitting smoking. So why not this year along with those resolutions you add up new small changes that I recommend in this article? Because see in the big picture these small changes actually show differences.
So, here are my 13 new resolution suggestions that might not be that mainstream but can change your life.
Make one person laugh daily
In 2023, make a resolution to make at least one person laugh every day. You do not know what a person is going through, and when maybe that one smile from you is going to make a difference in their life.
Write 10 positive affirmations daily for you
I do not know if you have ever heard of it but do you know when we write something down, we are more likely to remember it? So writing positive affirmations for you going to remember your worth and whenever you feel down those quotes can help you get out of that situation.
But why 10? I mean why I asked you to write 10 affirmations daily? — to be honest, there is no reason. You can write more or less, just make sure you are writing.
Follow people on social media who makes you feel worthy
We always brag about how social media is destroying our life, but recently I adopted this new mindset which is whether social media is bad or not depends on the person using it. See you can not deny the fact there is so much good in social media, but people are more driven toward the negative/bad side.
So, if you just use social media for growth, you are going to grow. Start following creators who teach you something or make you feel good about yourself. Avoid those guys who always complain or every time portray the ugly side of life.
Learn at least 2 new skills this year
This a resolution I personally set for myself. Previously I also had this type of resolution but that time the problem was I always wanted to learn so many things at once. And in the end, always ended up learning nothing.
So, this year my goal is to learn 2 new skills, one will be related to writing and another in a different genre. If you told yourself in 2022 that in 2023 you will work on your growth then I want to welcome you to this resolution.
Exercise at least 3 days a week
Move your body even if it is for only 30 minutes. Every year almost 90% of people make a resolution to start working out, but the sad part rarely anyone sticks to it. And the number one reason for that is a hectic workout schedule and less patience. It is always better to exercise 3 days a week for the rest of your life than move the body 6 days a week for the next 3 months.
So, start slow. Join a gym, do cycling, work out from home — do whatever you want; just make sure you are exercising.
Drink 3 liters of water at least 5 days a week
I suffered from a bladder infection because I used to drink <1L water daily. And let me tell you, it was really painful. I do not want others to feel the same pain. So, please drink enough water. This is a really tiny resolution but trust me, in the long run going to make a big difference.
Start giving time to your hobbies
You are never too busy to give time to your hobbies. Occasionally it may not be possible to give time, but on most days you have time. Giving that precious time to your hobbies is a form of self-care. You do not have to monetize your hobbies just make sure you are taking care of your inner self by doing your hobbies.
Keep in touch with friends
Talk to them once in a while. If they do not call you, then give them a call, and leave your ego outside the door. A small chit-chat a day with friends is more than enough to make you feel good and keep them connected.
Tell your parents you love them every once in a while
Before losing her life, my mother was in immense pain. I always wanted to give my mother a tight hug and tell her how much I love and care for her. But I had never been able to do that because I was too shy. I do not want you to regret it like me. Tell them how much you love them until it is too late.
Start cleaning your room once a week
This is also a resolution for me in 2023. As I live in a metro city in India, it is very dusty here. All the furniture gets covered in the dust very often. So, I made a resolution to clean my room every Sunday. It will not only help my room look clean but also will give me some sense of accomplishment.
Do one thing this year that scares you
Just one thing. One small step outside your comfort zone. Maybe it is just as small as talking to that girl you have a crush on. These small steps outside of your comfort zone are actually going to help you grow.
Be independent
You can not always be dependent on your parents to hand you money at the beginning of the month, right? For that find a way to earn your own money. With your own money, you can be independent. You can invest or put it wherever you want without explaining the reason to anyone.
Start building a community online
The world is present online. This is high time to build an online presence. Having an online presence not only opens opportunities for people but also gives various advantages in making money or building a career. So in 2023, start building a community on online — whether it is on LinkedIn, Medium, Quora, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, or any social media platform.
No matter what you pick as a resolution (whether from the list or anywhere else) just make sure to keep doing that for the rest of the year. This is all that matters.
