If changing behavior at a personal level seems daunting, change at an institutional level is even more complex.

In order for organizations, and societies to move from a current to a desired state, every person in the organization should change.

The individual change cumulatively makes for the organization's change. Here is the problem, change has to begin from a desired level.

What is desire?

It is a strong feeling of wanting to have something, or wishing for something to happen.

If one is okay with the status quo, then even with a carrot and stick, change will be impossible.

Desire comes from being dissatisfied with current circumstances. It is a state of mind that nurtures and makes change possible.

Without a desire for change, there is no change.

You cannot force yourself, nor can you force your partner, your child, your colleagues, nor your employees to change.

Unless the desire for change remains strong, body, and mind tends to return to the old, and familiar — Dan Millman
