If you desire to be happy then you have to commit to it.

Happiness is a job. It is your main job. A big conduit for happiness is finding fulfillment through becoming well-rounded.

Balance is key in that equation.

If you can find the balance between these three topics, you’ll be learning, growing, and progressing toward your best self.

A Hobby to Keep You Healthy

There is no excuse for this nowadays.

We are bombarded with endless ways and methods to take care of our health and fitness.

There’s a gym on every corner. There are also thousands of trainers that one can access online. There are programs, diets, blogs, websites, and YouTube channels devoted to physical well-being.

You can download an app right now to be your trainer.

Yes, I understand there’s a pandemic happening. However, you are at home. You have a floor. Drop down and do pushups. Do squats or yoga. Order a stationary bike on Amazon. My friends, there are endless ways.

Your dreams and the life you desire won’t matter if you’re in the hospital.

There’s a quote I’m reminded of:

“If you don’t make time for your wellness you will be forced to make time for your illness.”

That statement is scary and true. We think we are good. We think at times we are badass and untouchable. I know I certainly did at one point, but my mortality was thrown in my face and I paid the price.

Work out. Eat real, whole foods, and drink water.

Trust me, health is paramount. Make your health a priority and then your dreams.

A Hobby for Your Mind

You have to start reading.

There is no excuse today for not reading. It’s become easier than ever. Real books, kindle or digital, and audiobooks are available.

How do you expect to make progress or level up when you constantly think the same thoughts from day to day?

Researchers have concluded that we have anywhere from 12,000 to 60,000 per day. 80% of them are negative and 95% of them are the same thoughts from the day before.

Taking in new ideas from different sources means new ideas come out. New thoughts and ideas that can be applied to all areas of your life for self-improvement and personal development.

Experience is, and will always be, the best teacher. But you can bypass years — sometimes decades — of mistakes by reading the experiences of others.

I don’t need to have the experience of getting hit by a car or going broke to not make those mistakes. I can read about how awful it is, learn from the mistakes of others, and then apply the proper advice.

A Hobby to Make Money

Do you think you’re safe and secure because you have a job?

Do you think you are vital to your company, organization, or business?

You’re not.

Covid was a wake-up call and it showed us that no one is safe. Big, “safe” businesses like Disney had massive cutbacks this past year which shook employees to their core. I was one of them. I also had friends of mine who worked for Disney for almost 40 years get fired.

The cold, hard truth is that you are replaceable. And while you might be loyal to your company, it would be naive to think the loyalty will always be returned.

Don’t rely on one job.

Having one stream of income isn’t enough. One stream of income means you’re still vulnerable.

The average millionaire has at least seven streams of income. Seven.

They operate in this way because nothing in life is secure. The market can change in an instant and they properly prepare for the worst. If one business underperforms or fails, their whole world doesn’t collapse.

You have the internet at your disposal. Plenty of people have taken their side hustle and scaled it into full-time businesses.

It’s not greedy, it’s practical and smart.

Final Thoughts

There’s no doubt that 2020 was a rough year.

However, tough times yield the greatest lessons if we open up our eyes to them. We can learn so much when we make the decision to ask “what can I learn from these past experiences?”

Make sure 2021 is better by incorporating these three behaviors:

  • A hobby to keep you healthy
  • A hobby for your mind
  • A hobby to make money

Find the balance between all three. Make these behaviors habits and I promise you your life will change for the better.
