What does Jeff Bezos have in common with Dr. Who, Avatar 2, and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone?

They all pursue the ‘elixir of life,’ the secret to immortality.

Together with Yuri Milner, one of the world’s leading technology billionaires, Bezos has become the main investor in Altos Labs, a research startup that includes Nobel Laureates and scientific leaders and whose aim is to rejuvenate cells in the lab, revitalize entire animal bodies, ultimately prolonging human life.

Yet they are not pioneers in their ambitious determination to become ‘XXI century alchemists’—or at least, the sponsors: Larry Page, co-founder of Google, formed Calico Labs in 2013 to understand the biology of aging and age-related diseases.

In a rapidly aging population with rising occurrences of chronic illnesses, identifying the reasons to delay (or reverse) aging has become the gold rush of biomedical research.
