A Chilling Quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson That Helped Improve My Mental Health
Once I knew the secret there was no turning back
A few years ago, I ended up having anxiety attacks. It was the culmination of years of suppressing my emotions, not speaking my truth, and putting other people’s needs ahead of my own.
I desperately wanted things to change but I didn’t know how.
Around this time I heard Ralph Waldo Emerson say something that helped me change course:
“Nothing can bring you peace but yourself” — Ralph Waldo Emerson
Prior to that, I had found peace and happiness in relationships, work, travelling, and psychedelic experiences. But once they had finished or were over I’d be left with a hollow feeling. One that felt unsettled and lost.
After hearing Ralph Waldo Emerson’s words I knew I had to make more permanent changes.
Clearly, what I was doing wasn’t working. So, I quickly started experimenting in a bunch of new ways.
- I quit sugar
- I stopped smoking cigarettes
- I started drinking decaf coffee
- I gave up alcohol
- I started eating local organic food
