A Guy I Met Explained What Bureaucracy at Work Looks Like. I Listened [& I Laughed].
The Big B comes in different shapes and forms… but the classic style remains evergreen
It is challenging to describe.
I tried figuring out why. I could not. And then I had an epiphany. It was tough [for me] to observe and describe bureaucracy at work precisely because I am in that swamp daily.
Too up-close. Knees deep. Jumping through hoops and crawling through barbed wire like a bot.
Now imagine what it was like when an interviewee articulated what Big B is like in clear terms. Wow. What a marvel!
And of course.
I had a good laugh.
It was the final question of the interview
These days, I look forward to the final question of the interview session.
I have more leeway to ask whatever I wish. To be clear, this is done to extract the color of their personality. Some interviewees are too well-polished. They conceal their [real] thoughts. Others display their cold side. Robotic, even.
It makes me uncomfortable.
