An Immediate Confidence Boost For When You’re Feeling “Meh”
Styling your way confident is a thing, and it works like a charm
Acclaimed American costume designer Edith Head famously said: “You can have anything you want in life if you dress for it.”
And damn it, I believe that, and you should, too.
If you have yet to be bitten by the style bug (aka you haven’t found that thing to wear that screams YOU), I hope you find it soon. I’m here to show you the incredible power that dressing up has on your mental health.
Got a case of the Monday “Mehs?”
May you take inspiration from this post on how a spectacular pair of glasses gives me Lady Gaga confidence with each and every wear.
Give me anything that’s bold and oversize, and odds are, I am on board. Hats, earrings, jumpsuits, caftans, and my very fan favorite, glasses, all make me feel a particular level of badassery when adorning them.
My natural gravitation toward bold, colorful outfitting also applies to people. I’m attracted to anyone who proudly and confidently takes up space — be it through their personality or looks, I can’t help but be in awe of anyone with an edge so confident, so admirable, that I must know how to emulate that myself.
It’s no surprise, then, that I was pulled like a magnet to a pair of chic and sassy glasses I came across during a late night Instagram scroll — an accessory I knew would be well worth my money at a mere glance.
While I excitedly awaited their arrival, the tingly feeling I got when putting them on happens but a few times in a woman’s life. I expected a mood boost, yes, but when I looked in the mirror, my jaw actually dropped. These glasses were more than a mood booster — they were a full-on transformation of, I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROAR.
Visions of powerful, iconic women, along with their trademark looks, popped into my head — Anna Wintour with her blunt bob and dark sunglasses, Beyonce with her glittery bodysuits, Taylor Swift with her red lipstick.
And it dawned on me. If I treat these glasses as my superwoman cape (just like superwoman did), I can manifest superwoman confidence. And manifest I did.
These magical spectacles have become my morning espresso (in addition to my actual espresso), fueling my creativity and motivating me to get down to business. They are my midday pick-me-up, giving me that extra surge of creativity necessary to polish off my projects. Taking them off at the end of the day has become validation for a job well done — a signal to my brain that it’s time to go outside and play.
My question for you is, what is your red pair of glasses? And more importantly, who will you be when you wear them?
