Do Others See You the Same Way You See Yourself?
A question of perspective and Self revelation
This idea came to me after a recent visit to my hair stylist.
She blow-dried my hair the opposite way to how I’ve worn it for centuries so it now sweeps back off my face, right to left.
This new direction of my roots had a positive effect — I’m open and free.
Right, left or wrong
In bed that night, I imagined gazing at my new hairstyle in the mirror. I realized that in the reflection, my hair would swing right to left.
But in a photo image the reverse is true. My hair flows in the opposite direction — left to right — the same way you see me.
But that’s pure physics — a superficial rendering.
There’s more to us than meets the eye if we move beyond logic.
How do we connect?
Who are you?
Who am I?
What do we see?
Fifty five percent of how we communicate with each other is via body language so it’s worth a look.
We read facial expressions, physical posture, the clothes a person is wearing.
Do you see false smiles that don’t crinkle my eyes?
Am I nodding so much my head will fly off my shoulders?
Can you hear the rapid tap-tap of my fingers?
Am I hunching my shoulders?
When I’m at ease, I’ll hold my head high and walk with purpose, shoulders back.
If I enjoy your company, I’ll lean forward. If not, I’ll back away.
Today, you’ll find me in jeans and T-shirt. Casual. Relaxed.
(What of the invisible?)
Trust your gut
To know each other well, the best place to begin is downstairs; the visceral, primal gut feeling that kicks in a split-second before we think.
There lies the truth; that aha feeling, goose bumps, a tingling sensation.
The same holds true for knowing ourselves.
If I believe I’m unworthy, your intuitive empathy will pick up on that.
Nowhere to hide!
(One final step and we’re home.)
The entire universe is vibrational energy, a subtle energy which runs in and through us.
(Chinese medicine calls this chi or ki. I discovered this energy when I practiced Aikido — an art of pure self-defense. The literal translation is the way of unifying with life energy.)
Did you know our heart emits the strongest electro-magnetic field which extends eight feet beyond our bodies?
Not surprising that we can pick up the emotional atmosphere. Cloudy or sunny.
Likewise, I can sense your emotions by looking into your eyes, by the touch of your hand, or a hug.
The tone and volume of your voice can soothe or unsettle me.
Who are we?
See me as I see myself and I shall see you as you see yourself.
