Exercise Has Never Been Fun, and It May Never Be. Then What?
Beginnings are hard, no matter how long you’ve been practicing
Do you struggle to stick to an exercise routine, regardless of how short or moderate it seems? Do you blame yourself for being unable to move your body enough to keep it supple and healthy — let alone engage in a sweat-triggering workout to lose weight?
Well, you are not alone. There are thousands of people out there in this situation, and I belong to that club.
It’s embarrassing to admit, but as a nutritional health counselor, I am expected to ‘walk the walk and talk the talk.’
Because social pressures can be cruel, I tend to have the following internal conversations.
“Why can’t I stick to a healthy exercise routine like everyone else?” — angry tone.
“Why am I the reincarnation of a human sloth?” —dramatic moan.
“You must be kidding!” It’s the most common reaction from everyone who knows my love for mountains and hikes: long and short; over the high-altitude Alpine tracks or along the rounded, arid cliffs of my hometown in Southern Spain — some of my closest friends call me “mountain goat” for a good reason.
